A trip to Denmark may seem very ordinary for someone who regularly sails in and around Kiel. But considering I’m from Cape Town, it’s a cool 12000km or more away from home. So in fact, when it was declared that we would be sailing to such foreign lands I was beyond excited! I quickly messaged friends and family and announced my voyage to the fairy tale islands off Denmark. I was met with bewilderment:

“You’re able to sail to Denmark from Germany in one weekend??! HOW??” This is laughable to sailors here. It’s simply a hop, skip and a jump across the pond but I’m from the farthest tip of Africa. If we want to leave our country to sail to a completely different country, it’s certainly not done over the course of a weekend.

Ein Wochenendtrip “mal eben” nach Dänemark – und sei es auch nur zum Eis- und/oder HotDog-Essen – ist für die allermeisten von uns keine wirklich Besonderheit. Für unseren Gast vom anderen Ende unseres Längengrades aber schon! Und so verbrachten wir ein wirklich schönes Wochenende an Bord der Broader View Hamburg mit viel von allem: Sonne (inkl. roter Nasen), Wind (bis 30kn), Regen (ganz viel in heftigen Schauern), Fußball nur am Rande (aber auch da viele Tore), vielen Gesprächen und ganz besonders viel Spaß und DÄNEMARK.
